09.01.2012 : Women in technical fields – A tour of the ARTEMIS premises
Women and technics - that fits well. A group of schoolgirls of the Integrierte Gesamtschule Hannover-Linden shows interest in technical fields during a tour through the premises of ARTEMIS Kautschuk- und Kunststoff-Technik GmbH in November.
The pupils are in the phase of choosing a profession and used the tour to get information about opportunities of training and to obtain an insight of requirements and workflows of their potential apprenticeship.
After a welcome speech and a short introduction of the company by Mr. Klüver, the Training Manager of ARTEMIS, the trainees of ARTEMIS took over. The seven trainees, who are in their 1. and 2. year, presented the occupations “Industrial business management assistant”, “Machine and equipment operator” and “Technical product designer”. They explained prerequisites of applicants and the duration of the apprenticeship. Very interesting for the 15-years old girls was to realize the different fields of profession, for some of them were completely unknown to them.
After the safety instructions, the tour started and gave the girls an insight into technical operating areas like compounding, laboratory, maintenance, production and construction. In that way, the schoolgirls got an impression, what challenges belong to the certain vocational trainings and, furthermore, they had the possibility to ask questions. Because the girls had so many questions, the tour lasted longer than expected. The trainees and Mr. Klüver comprehensively answered all questions concerning practical training, applications, chances of a permanent position, apprenticeship remunerations and chances to gain one of the popular training places.
Because the main part of the event was performed by the ARTEMIS trainees, the pupils had the impression that the meeting took place between equals. So not only the school girls learned a lot this day, also the ARTEMIS trainees gained important experience by organizing and performing the event.
